Through collaborations with the Crimes Against Children Unit of Louisville Metro Police, Child Protective Services, U of L School of Medicine and the Commonwealth’s Attorney office, our Kosair Charities Child Advocacy Center works to help children and families through the trauma of sexual abuse.
We provide individual, family, group and school-based counseling to help trauma-impacted children and families. We supervise parent-child visitations, help families stay in their homes, help first-time parents better engage and bond with their newborns and students improve socially and academically.
Last year we helped nearly 5,000 children and family members regain hope.
If you witness or suspect child abuse, take action immediately. Call the Kentucky Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-752-6200 or the Indiana Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-800-5556.
As we enter the last days of April, Child Abuse Prevention Month, we’ve seen some great events and great support surrounding Family & Children’s Place and other efforts to protect children from violence, abuse and neglect.
We’ve seen lawmakers increase protections – important and needed improvements. We’ve seen a Rally to End Child Abuse on the river. We’ve seen blue and silver pinwheel gardens sprout up around the city. We’ve seen community breakfasts, walks and runs, viewpoints in local media, and social media has blown up with related posts.
But May beckons and the focus will change to new recognitions and celebrations. So it’s critical that as April wanes, we never forget that child violence, abuse and neglect don’t take a vacation. There is no “season” for abuse and neglect. Children are injured – and die from preventable abuse and neglect – every day.
Be the force that makes sure stopping and preventing child abuse remain a priority – keep the pinwheels spinning.
We’ve added photo galleries to the website, collections of photographs taken at Family & Children’s Place-sponsored events, such as our Building Brighter Futures Breakfasts or the Rally to End Child Abuse. We have two albums posted at this time, but will continue to add more as we continue our journey to end child violence, abuse and neglect in Greater Louisville and Southern Indiana.
Whether you hook, slice, fade or are a hole in one ace, you’re going to want to find a foursome and register for the Family & Children’s Place 12th annual Golf Scramble. Cost for the June 12 scramble at Persimmon Ridge Golf Club, is just $840 per foursome (with no sponsorship) or $210 for an individual. The fee covers a day of golf and helps Family & Children’s Place prevent and stop child violence, abuse and neglect, and provide critical healing therapies. More here.
