 Nothing is more important than family. Strong, positive relationships are essential to a stable home and healthy child. Raising a child can be challenging to even the best of parents. Crises can affect any of us, no matter who we are or where we live. Family & Children First strives to be a place Where Families Come Together and thrive by receiving excellent, professional help.
Founded in 1883 as the Charity Organization Society, we have grown and adapted over the years to provide services that reflect the changing needs of our community. Today, Family & Children First is a private, non-profit organization, a Metro United Way member agency, and accredited by the Council on Accreditation.
We provide solutions for families through professional counseling and education. Each year, we serve more than 3,500 families through neighborhood based centers, outreach services and a crisis treatment center.
Ranging from the New Parent Support Service, a starting point for young, overwhelmed first time parents, to the Family Counseling Service, addressing a host of family, child, couple and individual problems, well trained, compassionate staff work toward the right solution for each family. In other initiatives, such as the Family and School Service, help strengthen families’ relationships and improve their students’ success. The Child Advocacy Center, providing our Region’s designated child sexual abuse trauma response, is a haven for children and families overcoming a horrific personal experience. The Homeless Prevention Service also reacts during crises as families are threatened by enormous disruptions to their lives.
