Mary, just eighteen, was four months pregnant with her first child when she was referred to Family & Children First. She was in a violent relationship with the father of the baby. During weekly home visits, Margaret, our New Parent Support Service worker, began helping her prepare for the new challenges of parenthood. Her baby boy is now six months old. Mary found the strength to leave the baby’s father. She is attending college classes and hopes to begin a nursing program in the near future. Until the baby is two years old, Margaret will help Mary build on her parenting skills and promote her baby’s growth and development.
