Applications for Child Abuse Prevention Grants Sought
Community and faith-based organizations are invited to apply for ten mini grants – for $2,000 each – from the Partnership to Prevent Child Abuse for child abuse prevention efforts. Funds can be used for a variety of purposes, including staff development, investigating community needs and desires regarding child abuse issues, enhancing current prevention programs or services, and developing activities to strengthen families in the community.
The Partnership, funded by the U.S. Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, is a two-year program to increase the well being and safety of children and reduce juvenile delinquency in Metro Louisville. The mini grant program is designed to increase the capacity of community and faith-based organizations to provide prevention services that reduce child abuse and neglect in Metro Louisville. Organizations do not need to have prior experience in child abuse prevention or programming to receive a grant.
Applications are due February 15, 2008. The mini grants must be used by August 30, 2008 Organizations interested in applying for the grants should contact Ramie Martin at 852-3220 or ramie.martingalijatovic@louisville.edu for further information and application materials. Additional information will be available later this week at www.louisville.edu/kent/ppca. Mini Grant awardees will be announced February 29, 2008 and successful applicants will be notified by mail.
The mini grants are part of the overall Partnership effort to train at least 1,500 families in child abuse prevention and provide specialized abuse-recovery treatment to at least 150 children.
PPCA partner agencies are: Family & Children First, which conducts overall project management and fiscal oversight, and provides child abuse prevention and treatment and family intervention services (see www.famchild.org).
Exploited Children’s Help Organization (ECHO), which provides community education and prevention (see www.ECHOlou.org). University of Louisville’s Kent School of Social Work, which provides training in best practices and evaluates the program at the end of its two years (see www.louisville.edu/kent).
Louisville Official Oscars® Gala To Benefit Child Abuse Prevention/Treatment Efforts
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (January 18, 2008) –Only invited guests can mingle with the stars at the 80th annual Oscars® at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on February 24th, but several hundred Louisville residents can don their designer duds that night to attend the local Oscar Night® America Gala, the region’s only Oscar-related event officially sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The ninth annual Oscar Night® America Gala in Louisville benefits Family & Children First, which provides child abuse treatment and prevention, support for new parents, family counseling and other services to children and families in the Metro Louisville area.
The Gala is the chance for Louisville to experience the excitement and glamour of Hollywood at its own Oscars® party, including a red carpet entrance complete with paparazzi. Guests will receive the official Academy awards program and poster - just like those given to the stars attending the Hollywood event. They’ll watch the Academy Awards on the big screen with the Hollywood feed of the stars' arrival picked up at 8 p.m., enjoy an elegant dinner, and have the chance to bid on many live and silent auction items including vacation packages with airfare to exotic destinations, Ryder Cup tickets, and more.

RFP Announcement for Mini Grants
The Partnership to Prevent Child Abuse, funded by the U.S. Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, announces that ten community organizations will be chosen to receive mini grants to aid them in developing capacity and competency in the field of child abuse prevention. Mini-grant funds can be used for a variety of purposes, such as staff development, investigating community needs and desires regarding child abuse issues, enhancing current prevention programs or services, and developing activities to strengthen families in our community. Because the purpose of the mini grant project is to increase the capacity of faith-based and community organizations to provide prevention services that reduce child abuse and neglect in Metro Louisville/Jefferson County, it is not necessary to have prior experience in child abuse prevention or programming to receive a grant.
